A New Active Headset For a Helicopter Application
نویسندگان
چکیده
In helicopters, the low frequency noise generated by the rotors and engines often masks and jeopardizes safe communication. Additionally, pilots are likely to suffer from hearing damages due to the higher sound levels in the headset produced whencompensatingfor the noiseby increasedspeakerlevels. A feasible approach is to reduce the low frequency noise using active techniques, thereby enabling lower speakerlevels. In many Active Noise Control (ANC) applicationsthe primary noise field is either periodic or broadband which simplifiesthe choice of algorithm. In our application, noise up to 100 Hz is dominated by tones and in the range from 100 Hz to 400 Hz the noise characteristicsis more broadband. In order to achievean efficientattenuationof the primarynoise, a combination of a digital feedforward controller and an analog feedback controller is employed. The feedforwardcontroller is tachometerbased and reducesthe tonal components, whilethe feedback controller attenuatesthe more broadband noise. In this paper, a combination of these two techniquesis evaluatedon real data.

Analysis of Helicopter Sound for the Development of A New Generation Active Headset
Helicopters generate substantial noise levels, especially at low frequency. These noise levels are normally not harmful for rpm Rotation per minute the ear. However, the low frequency content masks the speech . Therefore, pilots tend to set the communication system at maximum level so that the sound levels reach severe amplitudes for the ear. These high sound levels are exposing the ear to fati...

Among the many occupational hazards to which Army rotary-wing aviators are exposed is intense noise generated from the aircraft. The potential for permanent hearing loss and difficulty communicating in helicopter noise is well known; an appropriate way to evaluate a hearing-impaired pilot’s safety risk due to hearing loss is not as well known. Previous research has studied communication ability...

In this paper, an almost new control approach called terminal synergetic control which works based on user defined manifold is applied to a nonlinear helicopter model. Stability analysis is convestigated using Lyapunov stability theory. Synergetic controller is applied to this nonlinear fifth-order helicopter model to control height and angle. Simulation results showed that it has faster and sm...

The Wearable Active Camera/Laser (WACL) is a new collaboration tool that allows a remote expert to not only independently set his or her viewpoint into the workplace of a fieldworker wearing the WACL but also to point to real objects directly with a laser spot. In this paper, we examine how communication patterns differ between the WACL interface and a typical headset interface. Results show th...
